Fiddle Teams / Open Division

2003 - 1st

An invitational. Opening round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals Saturday on the main stage at the Folk & Roots Festival.



2004 - 2nd

Contestants entered as Fiddle Teams: a fiddler with another lead instrument. Opening round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals Sunday on the main stage at Folk & Roots.

2005 - 3rd

Fiddle Teams opening round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals on Sunday on Folk & Roots main stage.


2006 - 4th

Fiddle Teams opening round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals on Sunday on Folk & Roots main stage. Youth Division added on Thursday. 



2007 - 5th

Fiddle Teams opening round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals Sunday on Folk & Roots main stage. Youth Division on Thursday.



2008 - 6th

Fiddle Teams & Youth Division Finals on Thursday in the Old Town School concert hall. Winners performed at Fiddle Band event Sunday at Folk & Roots.



2009.

No Fiddle Team Division.  Youth contest was separate. Fiddle Bands was the only division contested.


2010 - 8th

Youth contest was separate, but winners performed on Thursday. Open Division finals held on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Winner performed at Fiddle Band event on Saturday at Folk & Roots.

2011- 9th

Open Division for Teams, Bands and Solo Fiddles. Youth Division opening round on previous Sunday. Youth Semifinals and Openi Division opening round on Thursday at the Old Town School. Finals on Saturday at Folk & Roots.



2012 - 10th

Open Division with Solo Fiddle and Fiddle Team categories. Opening Round on Thursday in Giddings Plaza. Finals on Saturday in Old Town School West concert hall at Square Roots Festival. Youth Division opening round previous Sunday with finals on Thrusday. Youth winners perform on Saturday.



2013 - 11th

Open Division with Solo Fiddle and Fiddle Team categories. Opening Round on Thursday in concert hall (Maurer Hall). Finals on Saturday in Old Town School West concert hall at Square Roots Festival. Youth Division previous Sunday with finals on Thursday. Youth winners perform on Saturday.




Fiddle Band Division with Dancers

Five Fiddle Bands were invited to compete on the main stage at the Folk & Roots Festival. They were required to bring dancers on stage with them.




2009- 7th

Five Fiddle Bands were invited to compete on the main stage at the Folk & Roots Festival. They were required to bring dancers on stage with them.

Four Fiddle Bands were invitated to compete on was main stage at the Folk & Roots Festival. They were required to bring dancers on stage with them. (The Fantastic Toe Trippers Orchestra was the opening act.)

2012 - 10th

Three bands were invited to take turns at the mics in Szold Hall in Old Town School East.  The band that got the most people up and dancing would win the top prize. The judges called it a tie.
